When Wipro chairman, Azim Premji replaced its joint CEOs, Girish Paranjape and Suresh Vaswani last month with TK Kurien, it was only a signal that more is yet to come. Wipro Technologies, the IT wing of Wipro Limited today announced that it has realigned its organizational structure in line with the changed business environment, to a simplified industry domain led business. In this new model, Wipro aims to align client delivery, sales and profitability more closely with strategic business units (SBUs). The changes will be effective April 1, 2011. Industry observers say this restructuring is a result of the poor financial results of the company over the past few quarters compared to its peers in the industry.
The change has taken place across the company’s six SBUs. Energy & Utilities would continue to be managed by Anand Padmanabhan. Metals & Minerals will be a new unit in this vertical. Finance Solutions that comprises banking, securities and insurance verticals will continue to be under the leadership of Soumitro Ghosh. Media and Telecom would continue to be led by Mark Fleming. Pharmaceutical, Healthcare and Life Sciences and Services, which are related industry verticals are getting organized as a SBU for better synergies under the leadership of Sangita Singh.
